It is an almost spherical fruit of medium to large size. Its surface is covered with a tough, deep pink skin, while the interior consists of a white, spongy, bitter part divided into compartments filled with sacs containing small, dark pink, sweetly acidic and juicy seeds. These seeds are completely edible, offering a crunchy texture and a sweet berry-like flavour.
